The long sleep of Saints Row will soon come to an end: publisher Deep Silver confirmed that a new Saints Row game will be announced in 2020. The company had previously pledged plans to bring back the series with original developer Volition (now), a new Saints Row is “deep in development”, but for the first time, we have dates that we can look forward to.
Koch Media CEO Confirmed The News During An Interview
Games Industry spoke with Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media, about some of the company’s largest titles, including Dead Island 2, which is not dead. Saints Row the half-decent, overpowering franchise that was supposed to be successful ended up with a not so heroic bang. Look, I liked Agents of Mayhem when it came out in 2017, but I can tell I’m in the minority here.
Deep Silver was acquired by THQ Nordic about two years ago and has since then had great success in publishing games such as the recently released Shenmue 3.
Kundratitz indicates that there will certainly be news next year about a new Saints Row game, developed by Volition. He promises that this new game will be better than the somewhat disappointing spin-off Agents of Mayhem. He also indicates that fans can also look forward to more news about a new TimeSplitters game.
“Saints Row is Saints Row,” said Kundratitz. “The two games are certainly similar, but they are also completely different. With Volition, we have the developer of all Saints Row games as an internal studio and they are distracted by nothing else from developing our next game under this important franchise.
“Saints Row is very important to us and we will talk about it next year. For now, we just wanted to post the message that it’s coming and it’s going to be great.”
A Little About The Saints Row Series
For those who for some reason haven’t heard about this game series. Saints Row is an action-adventure video game series set in an open-world. The concept of the game is similar to that of the highly acclaimed GTA series by Rockstar North. However, the Saints Row series has a comic element to it.
The first Saints Row game was released in 2006 and it immediately became a commercial success. The original Saints Row was followed by Saints Row 2 which was released in 2008 followed by Saints Row: The Third in 2011.
The Last Complete Saints Row Game Came in 2013
The last full-length entry in the series in 2013 was Saints Row 4, followed by the stand-alone Gat out of Hell extension and later Agents of Mayhem (which is a canonical sequel to one of Gat out of Hell’s endings). We now know that the director of The Fate of the Furious is on the way to a Saints Row movie, which will hopefully occupy a spot on our list of the best video game movies.
